BE STILL & BREATHE

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

— Psalm 46:10 KJV

During our Walk & Worship time, we reflected on this Scripture in a different way.

We talked about breathing.

We talked about releasing.

We talked about what we’re praying about.

We talked about what we’re believing God for.

And then we simply took some time to be still.

The Be Still & Breathe prompt sheet was such a blessing because it gave us permission to slow down and actually sit with God instead of feeling like we had to rush through another spiritual activity.

And as I thought about that afterward, I couldn’t shake this Scripture.

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

I believe there is more for us here.

So I want to begin a new devotional journey around this one verse.

BE STILL.

Those two words sound simple, but for many of us, they are difficult.

Because being still means we have to stop.

And when we stop, we sometimes become aware of everything we’ve been trying not to think about.

The responsibilities.

The unanswered questions.

The things we’re praying about.

The people we’re concerned about.

The things we don’t understand.

The things we are trying to fix.

Sometimes we stay busy because busy keeps us from having to sit with what is really going on inside of us.

But God says:

“Be still.”

Not because He doesn’t care about what you’re facing.

Not because your situation doesn’t matter.

But because He wants you to remember who He is in the middle of it.

“AND KNOW…”

God doesn’t just tell us to be still.

He tells us to know.

Know that He is God.

Know that He is still present.

Know that He is still working.

Know that He is still faithful.

Know that He is still God when you don’t understand the process.

Know that He is still God when the answer hasn’t come yet.

Know that He is still God when you have to release something you’ve been holding tightly.

Sometimes our greatest struggle isn’t believing that God can do something.

It’s trusting Him enough to stop trying to do it ourselves.

That’s where stillness becomes worship.

THIS IS WHERE I AM TODAY…

Maybe God is asking you to stop carrying something that He never asked you to carry.

Maybe He’s asking you to stop trying to control the outcome.

Maybe He’s asking you to stop rehearsing the situation over and over in your mind.

Maybe He’s simply saying:

“Daughter, breathe.”

“I’ve got you.”

And sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is sit down, take a deep breath, and remind yourself:

God is God.

I am not.

And I don’t have to be.

YOUR REFLECTION TODAY

What have you been carrying that God may be asking you to release?

Don’t rush your answer.

Sit with it.

Breathe.

And then tell God:

“Lord, I give this to You.”

Not because you don’t care.

But because you trust the One who cares even more than you do.

PRAYER~

Father God,

Help me to be still.

Help me to quiet the noise around me and the noise within me.

Teach me how to stop striving and start trusting.

When I don’t know what to do, help me remember that You are God.

When I feel like I have to fix everything, remind me that You are already working.

When I am carrying things that are too heavy for me, give me the courage to release them into Your hands.

Lord, help me breathe again.

Help me rest again.

Help me trust again.

And in the stillness, let me know You—not just know about You, but know You in a deeper way.

You are God.

You are faithful.

You are with me.

And that is enough.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
